Award-winning gown for Kornit Textile Competition, facilitated by the Fashion Institute of Technology.
With 5 yards of fabric designed by FIT textile students, printed by Kornit Digital, Fern and her classmates were each challenged to design any garment to best showcase the textiles. Inspired by Marchesa gowns, Fern decided to go for a classic, yet risqué look. She showcased the beauty of the floral print with a long, wide skirt, and emphasized the complexity of the seashell fabric design with hand-made pleats along each side of the skirt opening. The bodice is made of a sheer silk chiffon, ruffled around the neck and tied with a satin ribbon. After submitting the gown into the competition, Fern was awarded 1st place prize for her design and had her creation showcased for one semester in the main lobby of FIT.
